Your privacy matters
This policy explains what information MotorCue uses, why we use it, who we share it with and the choices available to you.
1. Who we are
MotorCue is operated by Ravi Varma.
For privacy questions, data requests or general support, contact:
2. Information we process
The information MotorCue processes depends on which features you choose to use.
- Vehicle registration: when you search for a vehicle or use vehicle-related features.
- Vehicle and MOT information: such as make, model, fuel type, colour, MOT status, MOT expiry date, mileage, test history, advisories and defects.
- Email address: when you choose to create an MOT reminder or contact MotorCue for support.
- Location: if you choose “Use My Location” to find nearby MOT centres or manufacturer dealers.
- Technical information: our hosting and security providers may process information such as IP address, browser information and request logs when you access MotorCue.
3. Vehicle searches and DVSA data
When you search for a vehicle, MotorCue sends the vehicle registration to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) MOT History service to retrieve available vehicle and MOT information.
MotorCue does not intentionally store individual vehicle lookup searches in its application database as part of the standard vehicle search feature.
MotorCue is an independent service and is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by DVSA or DVLA.
4. My Garage
If you save a vehicle to My Garage, information such as the registration, make, model, fuel type, MOT status and MOT expiry date is stored locally in your browser using local storage.
My Garage information is not stored in MotorCue's Supabase database as part of the My Garage feature. You can remove a vehicle from My Garage at any time. Clearing your browser or site storage may also remove saved vehicles.
5. MOT reminders
If you choose to create an MOT reminder, MotorCue processes:
- your email address;
- your vehicle registration;
- the relevant MOT expiry date; and
- the status of reminders already sent.
This information is stored using Supabase so MotorCue can provide the reminder service you requested.
MotorCue is configured to send MOT reminders approximately 30 days, 14 days, 7 days and 1 day before the MOT expiry date, where the reminder was created early enough for those intervals.
Reminder emails are delivered using Resend. The email may contain your vehicle registration, MOT expiry date and the number of days remaining.
MOT reminder records are automatically deleted approximately 30 days after the relevant MOT expiry date.
6. Location information
MotorCue only requests your device location when you choose a location-based feature.
For MOT centre searches, your coordinates are used to calculate nearby MOT stations. MotorCue does not intentionally store those coordinates in its application database.
For manufacturer dealer searches, your latitude and longitude, together with the vehicle make, are processed by MotorCue's server and sent to Geoapify to return nearby dealer results.
MotorCue does not continuously track your location and does not use your location for advertising.
7. Google Places
MotorCue uses Google Places to improve information shown about MOT centres and manufacturer dealers, such as ratings, review counts, addresses, phone numbers, websites and Google Maps links.
MotorCue sends the relevant business name and address to Google Places for this lookup. The MotorCue implementation does not send your email address or vehicle registration to Google Places for this purpose.
8. Cookies and local storage
MotorCue uses browser storage where required for functionality. For example, My Garage uses local storage to remember vehicles saved on your device.
MotorCue may also use strictly functional storage or cookies to remember interface preferences.
MotorCue does not currently use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel or advertising cookies.
9. Why we use your information
Depending on the feature, MotorCue relies on one or more lawful bases under UK data protection law.
- Providing a service you request: for example, creating and delivering an MOT reminder.
- Consent: where your browser or device asks for permission before providing your location.
- Legitimate interests: where necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve MotorCue, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
- Legal obligations: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.
10. Service providers and data sharing
MotorCue does not sell your personal information.
We use third-party services where necessary to operate MotorCue, including:
- DVSA — vehicle and MOT information.
- Supabase — storage and processing of MOT reminder records.
- Resend — delivery of MOT reminder emails.
- Geoapify — manufacturer dealer searches based on location.
- Google Places — business information, ratings and reviews.
- Cloudflare — website infrastructure, security and email routing.
We may also disclose information where required by law or where necessary to protect MotorCue, its users or others.
11. International data transfers
Some of the service providers used by MotorCue may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on appropriate mechanisms made available by our service providers, such as applicable adequacy arrangements or approved contractual safeguards.
You can contact support@motorcue.co.uk if you would like more information about applicable transfer safeguards.
12. How long we keep information
- MOT reminder records are deleted approximately 30 days after the relevant MOT expiry date.
- My Garage information remains in your browser until you remove it or clear the relevant browser/site storage.
- Location information is used to perform the requested search and is not intentionally retained in MotorCue's application database as a location history.
- Support correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with your request and for appropriate record-keeping afterwards.
- Technical and security logs may be retained for limited periods according to operational, security and service-provider requirements.
13. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis involved, you may have rights to:
- ask for access to your personal information;
- ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- ask us to erase your information;
- ask us to restrict certain processing;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent; and
- object to certain uses of your personal information.
Your right to object
Where MotorCue relies on legitimate interests, you have the right to object to that processing in certain circumstances.
To exercise a privacy right, email support@motorcue.co.uk.
14. Complaints
If you have a concern about how MotorCue handles your personal information, please contact us first at support@motorcue.co.uk.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
15. Children's privacy
MotorCue is a vehicle-information service and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to MotorCue unnecessarily, please contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
16. Security
MotorCue uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we review the security of MotorCue and the services we rely on as the product develops.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when MotorCue's features, service providers or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page.
